5. Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 And 2

Status: Announced Due: April 27th 2018 and April 26th 2019 Key Players: Everyone who survives Captain America Civil War will team up with potentially all of Phase 3€™s major players (including the Guardians Of The Galaxy if rumours are to be believed) and maybe even some of Netflix€™s Defenders. And of course the Russos will direct, which is great news after The Winter Soldier (let€™s hope it still is after Civil War). What€™s It About: After spending a long time attempting (mostly fruitlessly) to get his hands on the Infinity Stones by sending inferior underlings to do his dirty work (without any reasonable explanation yet) Thanos€™ plot will finally come to a head. He probably won€™t fall in love with Death as a personification, but there€™s a distinct chance he wants to wipe out existence because he€™s entirely unhinged. It will be up to the Avengers, the Guardians and the Defenders and Inhumans (maybe) to stop him from putting them all together. The first film will probably see the Mad Titan acquiring his targets (and leaving a bloody trail through Asgard, Xander, Earth and wherever the remaining stone are hiding. And the second will presumably see the Avengers bulking up and taking him on toe to toe. Why We Should Care: Though Phase 4 is apparently planned, the end of the Infinity War arc will see the culmination of a lot of different threads, and probably the end of the shelf-life of the original Avengers. That perfect storm of story and contracts ending makes for the perfect opportunity for major threat, massive drama and the kind of body count that fills seats (though not so much in the first one, since too much of a downer in the first movie might kill the second€™s marketability). No matter how they approach it, it€™s an Avengers project and should inevitably be classed as a billion dollar prospect from day one anyway.
