50 Most Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies - Ranked

3. Captain America: Civil War

Status: Shooting complete Due: April 29th 2016 Key Players: The majority of the Avengers cast returns, with the Russos warming up for Infinity War after excelling with Winter Soldier. The only notable Avengers absentees are Thor and Hulk, who are off on their own adventure. New additions to the cast include Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Martin Freeman as (probably) a government stooge while William Hurt returns as General Thunderbolt Ross. Sebastian Stan, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo also all return to their respective MCU roles. What€™s It About: Though it€™s named after the comic arc, there€™s not a chance the film will follow the source closely. There will be disagreement over government legislation relating to superheroes, but there won€™t be a Spider-Man unmasking or Captain America€™s death or indeed any of the watershed comic moments. What we€™ll get instead is the conclusion of Bucky€™s arc, which will see Cap and his loyal team members protecting the reformed Winter Soldier from his criminal past, while piecing together the jigsaw of his origin. Meanwhile Black Panther and Iron Man will both be on his tail for murdering their parents, and everyone will disagree to the point of fisticuffs. It will be an event to say the least. Why We Should Care: It might not be a redo of the comic, but the chance to see another Avengers movie and one made by the Russos without the pressures to be bigger than the first Avengers movie is a big selling point. Conflict is always good too, and there should be a lot with Cap and Iron Man caught in a macho dick-swinging competition, Black Panther and Bucky squaring up and heroes picking sides. And then there€™s the chance of more Ant-Man, a new Spider-Man, the introduction of new characters and Martin Freeman being Martin Freeman. How could you not be excited?!
