50 Most Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies - Ranked

40. Sony/Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (& 3??)

Status: Planned (dependant on success no doubt). Due: Beyond 2019 Key Players: Kevin Feige will still be leading the creative team in some capacity. Tom Holland will still be Spider-Man, and there MIGHT be a Miles Morales role. Though that might be wishful thinking. What€™s It About: Who knows. Probably Venom v Spider-Man if Marvel have any sense. Why We Should Care: If this film actually ever gets released, it will be indication that Sony's gamble on working with Marvel and poaching Kevin Feige's powers paid off. If a third film comes off, that of course goes doubly.

39. Lucifer

Status: Announced Due: Sometime in the nearish future. Key Players: It's just been shifted to New Line Cinema along with the other Vertigo titles, but it's too early to have any names actually attached. Unless of course it's going to be tied into the TV show adaptation that's coming in 2016 directly, in which case Tom Ellis might return as the titular character. Alternatively of course, it might spin-off from the Sandman movie - the property Lucifer originally appeared in as a supporting character. What€™s It About: Lucifer gets bored with hell, and moves to LA where he runs a piano bar, attempts to undermine the tyrannical morality of Heaven and defies the hatred of his arch-nemesis Archangel Amenadiel who is bent on his destruction. Why We Should Care: Like Sandman, the original comic is a thing of beauty (the New 52 reinterpretation isn't as charming or as entertaining) and the potential for a great adaptation is definitely there. If it works for a TV show, presumably it will work for a film too.
