50 Most Exciting Upcoming Comic Book Movies - Ranked

38. Justice League Dark

Status: Announced Due: Not a clue. Key Players: Another one for New Line Cinema, and while it's terrible news that Guillermo Del Toro has left the directing chair, hopefully they will bring in someone with similarly imaginative credentials. Casting rumours have Ben Mendelsohn as villain Anton Arcane, Ewan McGregor or Colin Farrell as John Constantine and Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing. What€™s It About: The supernatural spin-off ensemble brings together John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Etrigan and Madam Xanadu (and possibly Frankenstein if they can sort the rights out), as they do largely what the JLA do, but with ghosts and monsters as their foes. Who€™s involved? Guillermo del Toro was at the helm, but is now said to have departed the project. No successor has been announced yet. Casting is a big question mark, too. Warner Bros have farmed out this film to their subsidiary New Line Cinema. Why We Should Care: The DCEU is already starting supernatural with the introduction of Enchantress in Suicide Squad (it was she who inspired the formation of the JLD, as it happens), and it's a bountiful source if it's handled properly. Constantine's movie suggests it probably won't be.

37. Untitled Superman Sequel

Status: "On permanent hold" Due: Who knows? Key Players: If it goes ahead, Henry Cavill will no doubt continue, and you'd have to suspect Jesse Eisenberg would pull on his bald cap again after Batman V Superman. George Miller was rumoured to be in line for the directing job, but sadly that fell apart before it even got off the ground. Don't expect any concrete hiring news until Warner Bros sort out whether it will actually happen. What€™s It About: After teaming up with the Justice League, Superman will presumably return to Metropolis to deal with his own problems. Rumour has it, that might have included Brainiac and Bizarro if Man Of Steel hadn't flopped. Why We Should Care: Well the rumours are certainly exciting, and it would be nice to see a Superman in this universe not shepherded by Zack Snyder.
