6 Actors Who Nearly Died Filming 2014's Biggest Movies
6. Hugh Jackman Almost Lopped Off His Penis In X-Men: Days Of Future Past
One of the many returns to form original X-Men director Bryan Singer presided over when he returned to the series with this summer's Day Of Future Past was Wolverine's claws. There was much to not recommend the phenomenally woeful X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but one of the most boneheaded decisions was using CGI to place the iconic metal pigstickers atop Hugh Jackman's knuckles in post-production. It looked really, really terrible. For Days Of Future Past Jackman was suited up with a pair of prosthetic claws once again, allowing him to play berserker X-Man Wolverine to the hilt, swinging the things around like the deadly weapons they pretend to be. In the movie he uses them to dismantle giant robots and air beds alike, but he very nearly fell victim to the claws himself - in an injury that, if it wasn't fatal, would certainly have lead to a change in lifestyle for the Aussie actor. During a nude scene towards the start of the film, Jackman recounts bashfully attempting to hide his shame from pervy cast and crew: "I tried to cover myself and cut my inner thigh. It was just the inner thigh, thankfully. The metal claws had to go-you can't have bits and pieces flying off." Yep, Wolverine almost castrated himself. You'd need quite the healing factor to sort that out.
