6 Actors Who Must Be Cast In A Justice League Movie
4. Aquaman - Jason Isaacs
Aquaman is a joke; we can't really skirt around that one. Anybody who has seen any animated cartoon for adults in the last decade will be familiar with the punchlines. From Seaman in South Park with his sidekick Swallow, to that sketch in Family Guy where Aquaman throws a starfish at the bad-guy on the beach, he is just considered ineffectual and camp.
This said, I think there is real potential in the character for the studio to make him a force to be reckoned with. He is the King of Atlantis, so he requires an actor who can bring a lot of gravitas and authority to the part. As a Marvel-boy over DC, I think bringing in some influence from Aquaman's Stan Lee-developed Marvel counterpart Namor (green, sparkly Speedos notwithstanding) would be a good move.
Namor is best when he's racist, angry and a fierce defender of his underwater realm. I think an Aquaman in the DC universe who hates humans for their polluting ways but has to put this disgust aside for the good of the Earth would make for a very compelling arc.
So, who would be right for the part? Well, I think Aquaman should probably be a middle-aged man to bring the sort of authority to the part that would contrast with The Flash. For me, there's one man who would fulfill these criteria to perfection.
Jason Issacs' recent turns as Detective Jackson Brodie is a good place to look for my inspiration in this choice. He is very fit and therefore looks the part of a superhero. He also has a real talent for looking very stressed as wind blows in his face (an important aspect of any super-heroic actor); he has the skills to deliver a deep, nuanced performance that would be an asset to the film.
