6 Comic Book Films ONLY Fanboys Can Hate

6. Daredevil

Daredevil 600x300If you just so happen to live under a rock and completely off the grid in this day and age, you may not have heard that Warner Brothers has recast Batman with Ben Affleck. Now I am not a fan of this decision by any means but when people use the argument that is "Daredevil" as the sole reason why he is already is the worst ever Batman I just want to slap someone upside the forehead. For starters, I think "Gigli" is a much better contender for why he should not play the Dark Knight. Because I honestly don't think Daredevil is that bad a film. I knew absolutely nothing about Daredevil prior to him being named as the blind superhero from Hell's Kitchen. NOTHING. AT ALL (I have to emphasize that). And yes, although it is a bit hokey, it is no more so than a lot of other superhero films (X Men finale, anyone?). In actual fact, Daredevil sets a much darker tone than most of the previous comic book films (it came out before X2) to date, which in turn makes it technically a precursor to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. I mean, they kill off the love interest and the bad guys lived, are you serious bro? What I find funny is that this stars Jon Favreau pre Iron Man days at his comical sidekick best and if released today, would probably have the same fan boys who nowadays claim he can do know wrong frothing at the mouth. Yes, Ben Affleck is not the best actor going around but he didn't massacre this role as so many said he did. I found his portrayal as an actual blind man was quite effective. Colin Farrell, although lacking a decent attire, made an awesome job as demented assassin Bullseye. And if anyone can look me in the face and say Michael Clarke Duncan has ever put in a bad performance (for what he's given) than I say that you must be a Michael Bay fan and know nothing of acting. The only real issue that stands out for me is the performance of Jennifer Garner, but as eye candy she was prefect for the role, and lets face it, all of these super heroines nowadays are just that, the hottest actresses in the world to pull in the teenage boys (again, X Men anyone, Avengers?)
And even though the CGI isn't all that great, it does not affect the flow of the film as bad as say, Catwoman. Actually apart from the finale in the church I would dare say that it is barely even noticeable. And recently with the release of the Directors cut that not only adds to and heightens the overall dark feel of the film but proves that movie execs should just steer clear of artistic decisions, I think it's time to give Affleck the benefit of the doubt when it comes to Batman.

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
