6 Crossover Events We Want To See In The MCU

1. Secret Wars

In case you hadn't guessed, the good folks at Marvel are big on the concept of war when it comes to their crossover events. It's arguable that the most famous war that our heroes have been involved in, even bigger than the Civil one, is the Secret Wars of 1985-1985. It all started with toy makers Mattel expressing a desire to create a toy line based on Marvel's characters, but only if there was some sort of big event that could bring them altogether for those outside the readership to be introduced to as many characters as possible. Editor Jim Shooter picked up on fan requests to have one big story with everyone in it and ran with it. The rest is (secret) history. The plot goes that Earth's heroes and villains are transported to a special 'Battleworld' in a far off galaxy by a cosmic being called the Beyonder, where they find huge resources of alien weapons and technology and divide into their typical factions. The Beyonder is fascinated by their powers and makes a promise that whichever side slays their enemies will be granted their biggest desires. Doctor Doom may be the most crucial villain in the Secret Wars, but there's no reason that the Beyonder's power couldn't be used to bring back some of the villains that have already been felled in the MCU such as Ronan, Red Skull (who we never actually saw die in the movies) and Aldrich Killian. The pull of the Beyonder's power could also attract Loki to fill Doom's shoes narratively. Taking our heroes away from Earth and forcing them to fight their nemeses so that they don't gain ultimate power would put a new sort of pressure on the heroes of the MCU, especially when they have access to the sort of technology they could normally only dream of. The setting and lack of civilians to protect would be a huge departure from everything we've seen so far, essentially giving us two ensemble movies for the price of one with the chance for unlikely alliances to be forged on the fields of Battleworld. It was a huge success in print, it was a popular arc in the Spider-Man animated series and it would very possibly make the ultimate MCU film. What crossover do you want the MCU to do?
