1. The Russian Version - World War Z

This year's most financially successful zombie movie might have also been its most neutered, given the extent to which Max Brooks' excellent novel was watered down as it made its transition to the big screen. Still, nobody's really arguing that World War Z - which starred Brad Pitt as a United Nations Aid Expert Gerry Lane - was a particularly bad one, just a fairly mediocre one. Its relative - for lack of a better word -"blandness" might have been resolved, though, had the filmmakers had the balls to go ahead with the "original" plot, later deleted. Instead of having Gerry go to Wales so he could run around a dull building masquerading as a climax, footage was shot which took our hero to Russia, where had would have been forced to join up as a member of the Army and face off against the undead haul. The idea was that Gerry would rise up through the ranks until he was leading his own badass squad, before he returned to the States to rescue his wife from her new boyfriend. Doesn't that sound way more interesting than what we actually got? Portions of these scenes were shot, but none have been released.
Should It Have Stayed In The Movie? Hell, yes: the idea of Gerry in Russia leading his forces against the zombies is far more intriguing and cinematic than the concept that the film ultimately clung to. A huge wasted opportunity, this.
