6 Doctor Who Movies That Almost Happened
2. David Yates' Blunder
In 2011, hot off the success of four Harry Potter movies, director David Yates gleefully touted to the press of his plans to effectively reboot Doctor Who as a feature film, discarding 50 years worth of history and befuddling Doctor Who fans and producers alike.
The BBC themselves were allegedly involved, but before the full, fiery wrath of Whovians could be felt, Steven Moffat shut down Yates' claims and stressed that any Doctor Who feature film would in fact be canon and star the incumbent Doctor.
No one knows why Yates had the authority to make these claims; he's never since elaborated on it and the BBC has never mentioned it. Indeed, it was a bizarre concept to begin with as it's common opinion that Doctor Who should be immune to a reboot.
