6 Future Billion Dollar Movies That Were Announced In 2013

2. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2016)

The quality of any given Pirates of the Caribbean movie never really has an effect on its box office gross, which is why Dead Man's Chest and On Stranger Tides (arguably the worst movies in the franchise) have both grossed over a billion dollars, whereas the original and best - Curse of the Black Pearl - only grossed $654 million. Which is to say, the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is pretty much a shoe-in for billion dollar glory: people are flocking to see these things in their masses, regardless of how good they actually are. The new movie is set to join Johnny Depp's drunken pirate Captain Jack Sparrow on another adventure as he embarks on what we can only presume will be a confusing, CGI-heavy slog that never seems to end. The plot is rumoured to focus on "the myth of the Bermuda triangle," which we'll admit sounds intriguing, but if On Stranger Tides is anything to go by, we've officially sailed these waters before. Whether or not you're looking forward to a fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, then, there's absolutely no way this thing won't break the billion dollar barrier.
