5. Gerard Sanders (Howard Stark)

The Replacement: John Slattery

Howard Stark is one of those actors who has actually appeared several times across the MCU. The longest screen time has gone to Dominic Cooper thanks to his appearances in Captain America: The First Avenger and Agent Carter, but he wasn't the first. He wasn't even the second.

The first actor to play Tony's daddy was, in fact, Gerald Sanders, who has a string of unknown projects to his name (including playing Nick Faldo for a made-for-TV Tiger Woods biopic). Though he didn't get any lines, it's Sanders who appears as Stark in Iron Man during the opening sequences where we see him immortalised in photographs.

When the time came for him to actually act, Marvel turned to John Slattery instead. Tony is going to be very confused when he finds out that wasn't even his real dad.
