6 Movie Bromances That Should've Been Romances

1. Batman & Robin (1997)

Go on... call me out for being obvious, I don't care- but I have put a lot more thought into this than simply suggesting that Robin is gay without qualification. Firstly Robin is actually a pretty boring character and I personally think making him gay would liven him up somewhat - but then that's just my personal opinion. As with most of the films on this list, Batman's romantic interests in these films not directed by Tim Burton or Nolan lacked dimensions and were pretty much boring - and this film is no different. Nothing even to this day has reached the same sort of level as in Batman Returns with the wonderfully complex and seductively dark on and off again relationship with Selena Kyle and Bruce Wayne- and Batman and Catwoman. No offense to all those Nolan lovers out there, but even Nolan's weakness in his trilogy was in creating a truly interesting and believable romantic interest for Bruce Wayne. So why not start to think outside the box? Gay superheroes are becoming the thing recently, and I look forward to seeing one on screen. But the biggest reason is Batman's costume in this movie. Bearing in mind that Batman mostly keeps to the shadows, the only person who would really benefit from his chest plate with abs and nipples molded into them, and an rear-end plate that looks like a completely naked bottom and even curves and molds around George Clooney own bottom is Robin himself... one of the few people who will actually see the costume in the daylight. Batman obviously specifically asked that these elements be included in his costume, and lets remember that in the previous films these were not part of his outfit. It's only after meeting Robin that Batman decided to show off his physique a little. Why not just stop with all the hints and just admit it already? What do you think - which other movie bromances should have been more explicitly romantic? This might only be a bit of fun (so keep the negativity to yourselves), but I want to hear your own suggestions in the comments below.
