6 People Who Stupidly Thought Their Movies Should Win Oscars

4. Anthony Mackie Thinks Captain America: Civil War Will Be The First Superhero Movie Up For Best Picture

Anthony Mackie recently got in a bit of trouble for flippantly stating that Mark Ruffalo was in Captain America: Civil War in an interview on BBC Radio 1, although in all the hoo-ha over whether or not he'd spoiled the Hulk's surprise appearance there was another brash statement he made has been overlooked; he'd dropped the actor's name to prove the movie's pedigree, concluding that "it might be the first superhero movie that might be up for Best Picture." I obviously haven't seen Civil War, so can't comment on its quality (although I'd be lying if I'm not pumped for the epic-yet-intimate showdown), can you seriously see that happening? Even if it is the best superhero movie we've ever seen, garnering across-the-board critical praise and bringing a new edge to the explosive thrills, there's no way it'll crack into that top tier; if The Dark Knight can't even get a consolatory look-in at Best Picture, what hope does something with more flashy appeal have? Yes, Mad Max: Fury Road has shown the Academy will sometimes give consideration to massive movies, but that was Mad Max: Fury Road - a technically perfect film that came from a long-standing, well-established (if off-kilter) auteur. It was a one-in-a-million success and is hardly going to mark a major shift.
