6 Shocking Signs Batman V Superman Could Actually Be Good
4. Jeremy Irons
I love The Dark Knight Trilogy (yes, even Rises). It's a phenomenal narrative work that reinterprets Batman while keeping the character's essence and ranks as one of the greatest trilogies of all time (behind, in no particular order, Star Wars, The Lord Of The Rings and Before). And, needless to say, I adore Michael Caine's Alfred. Both Carter at full force and a touching, emotive father figure, he wound up the ultimate heart of the series, a bigger hinge on events than the character had even been before. But I'd be lying if a part of me isn't intrigued by Jeremy Irons taking on Mr. Pennyworth. Scar himself has been picking more big-audience friendly roles recently - he's just been cast in Assassin's Creed and is a key part in Ben Wheatley's High-Rise - but by far the one destined to give him the most exposure (and put that Family Guy cereal joke behind him) is as Bruce Wayne's complicit butler. Judging from the trailers this is a very different Alfred, shown as both downbeat and angry in favour of the doting father figure. That whole theory he's the real Bruce Wayne is clearly hokum, but, regardless, Irons definitely looks to be defying the convention here.
