On the subject of Guardians of the Galaxy taking place in the vastness of space, it must also be noted on the thematic nature of the film and how it differentiates from Marvel's own Avengers team-up. Space is the new frontier for Marvel in Guardians of the Galaxy and, like the heroes and villains that inhabit it, the potentiality of introducing new elements never seen before are quite likely. The idea of science fiction is a genre based in a primordial pool composed of infinite conflicts and themes. Any film that is based in space is always grandiose in its qualities, both visually and thematically. With Marvel now launching into space on a Wiley Coyote-style rocket ship, it's their turn to explore those same famous ideas that made Blade Runner, Total Recall, and Battlestar Galactica so great. Science fiction has the rugged aptness to explain other alien races and environments, going into immeasurable detail that is nearly endless. Detailing alien races can go into explaining different conflicts, exploring planetary specifics, and expounding the technology and how everything is connected by each race's technological dynamics. Think Mass Effect, only in comic-book format. That was the very first vibe after witnessing the GotG trailer; it's a theatrical, humorous version of Mass Effect with all the small significances of basing itself in its own collected and imponderable universe.
