6 Star Wars: The Force Awakens Theories You Probably Haven’t Heard
5. Rey Is A Kenobi
The following theory is quote-unquote easy, and not at all unlikely. The parallels between Rey and Obi-Wan are obvious. Both lived as hermits (or, in Rey's case, she lived alone at least) on a desert planet. Both are pretty damn good at the whole hand-wave-y Jedi mind trick thing (if Rey's hands weren't shackled in that scene, you're damn sure she would have waved that hand). They both sneak around a giant superweapon (Death Star or Starkiller Base, take your pick) in order to complete some sort of mission... although arguably, this was just an intentional, rhythmic homage to A New Hope. But it remains that enough evidence of parallels between the two exist to posit the theory that Rey is in fact a Kenobi. For anyone who wants to suggest that Obi-Wan would never break the Jedi code of no sex, no marriage, etc etc., let's not forget - by the time the original trilogy rolled around, continuity-wise, the Jedi Order was over. Done. No more rules, no more Jedi Council to scold its members. Obi-Wan likely could have fallen in love the same way Anakin did, or at least just wanted to get his rocks off after a lifetime of being married to the Force. Rey's connection to the Skywalker Family Lightsaber could be used to dissuade supporters of the theory, but let's not forget, the 'saber was in Obi-Wan's possession for some 20 years. Enough to form his own bond to it. And in Rey's dream sequence, the one clear voice she hears is Obi-Wan's; "Rey, these are your first steps..." I'll let you be the judge. Or, y'know.
