6 Surprising Developments That Could Rock The Marvel Cinematic Universe
5. Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man - Rumour 2: Iron Man 4?
In the last couple of days, there's been a lot of back and forth on this one. After confidently stating that Iron Man 3 would be his last solo film, Robert Downey Jr seems to have started back tracking. And then backtracking again. Initially he suggested that he would take a leading role again only if Mel Gibson directed and we assumed he was just playing with us. But then he went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and stated quite confidently that another sequel is happening. Or is it? In his next interview, he's turned round and stated...
There are no plans for Iron Man 4 Theres no script for Iron Man 4, but have a plan and I think theyre going to announce it you know, theyre very secretive about it.
This is certainly much more cryptic than Iron Man 4 is happening but it does suggest that Downey Jr may be donning the red and gold suit for more than just Avengers: Age Of Ultron and its sequel. A fourth Iron Man film would be great, breaking the 'rule' Hollywood has that most big franchises have to be done in trilogies. But maybe we're going to get something else entirely. Downey Jr had great bromance chemistry with Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner; perhaps we're going to get a Hulk and Iron Man team up movie? It would be an interesting new direction for the franchise - maybe an element of DC's new superhero movie model inspiring Marvel? A solo film, a team up or something else entirely, the chances are good that we've got more Iron Man still to come in future years.
