6 Things Disney Should Do With The New Star Wars Trilogy

4. The Direction

Right off the bat, I€™d want to hire a director who knows the genre. So Ridley Scott would be my first choice, partly because (like half of me) he€™s a Geordie but mainly because Prometheus was bloody brilliant and he€™s able to not only create a wonderful sense of atmosphere but also to work brilliantly well with new technology despite having done a lot of work in the days when visual effects were in their infancy. On top of that, I just think he€™s a damn good director and would suit the darker tone I€™d want to establish. Keeping with wanting a darker, more violent film, I€™d also consider Paul Verhoeven. Verhoeven was at one point a contender to direct Return Of The Jedi but was dropped when Steven Spielberg saw how sexually graphic his film Spetters was. Verhoeven€™s another sci-fi director who I think has a lot of promise as well as a good track record and would do well as a Star Wars director. My third and final choice would be Matthew Vaughn. I€™d personally bet money on Disney hiring him to direct at least one of the new trilogy as he€™s worked on X-Men: First Class (part of Marvel, a franchise now owned by Disney) and fantasy epic Stardust. He€™s a relatively new director, having only directed four films so far but is a very promising talent whose sci-fi and fantasy work tends to straddle the line between family friendly, and dark and serious.
