Netflix look to cash in on the success of Making a Murderer by bolstering their back catalogue of films. James Woods plays real-life mass murderer Carl Panzram, who claims to have committed a series of crimes in the 1920s, before being jailed in 1928. Many of his alleged crimes could not be corroborated, but that didn't stop the US justice system from placing him on death row, where he befriended a security guard, who would later spend 40 years trying to get Panzram's memoirs published. In 1970, Macmillan risked their reputation to print the book, and in 1995 Hollywood released the film version. Despite America's obsession with serial killers it tanked at the box office, with some critics saying it lacked the warmth of Bonnie & Clyde, and missed the thrill of Silence of the Lambs. But the public's love affair with crime is back on, and if your appetite for law-breakers is rampant, then make sure you check out the haunting Killer: A Journal of Murder when it comes to Netflix on January 27th.
