Saw is the horror franchise that divides fans the most. The death of Jigsaw in the third film would have given closure to the series and its devoted fans, but instead Lionsgate took the bold move of revisiting his calculated world one more time, to mine it for more stories. Continuing a storyline whilst simultaneously making it a prequel is a skill best left to the masterminds of Hollywood, but there's a charm to the film's hit and miss nature that is at least in keeping with the Saw anthology. Some say only the odd-numbered ones are any good, others think it's the best thing since sliced flesh, and if you've watched the entire series, you'll already know this isn't the one to go back to for a quick horror hit. However, if you're working your way through it for the first time, rest assured that Saw escapes its fourth outing with nothing worse than a few broken bones and some heavy internal bruising. Saw 4 comes to Netflix from January 30th.
