TRON: Legacy was most certainly a disappointment to fans of the original cult curio, not only because they'd been waiting for the better part of three decades for it, but because the first released footage of the film had been so good it seemed for a period the sequel may actually live up to expectations.

As a proof-of-concept for his idea of an advanced Grid, director Joseph Kosinski had been commissioned to make a short film that sold Disney the world he wanted to present, something the studio liked so much they used it as a barometer of fan excitement at Comic-Con 2008. That in turn went down so well that it was used again to reveal the movie's title in 2009 and, as the movie was now officially greenlit, this time made its way online.

While the resulting movie didn't live up to the promise of those few minutes, it certainly didn't lack in the mood and style Kosinski showed - perhaps Disney should have put an equal amount of effort into the script before greenlighting the project.
