Christopher Nolan is a filmmaker whose name just demands you get excited. His career is built not only on being one of the most capable directors in mainstream Hollywood, but also in his ability to deftly play with fan expectations - just look at the surprise Matt Damon cameo in Interstellar.

So it's hardly surprising most of his movies have trailers that arrive well in advance; Inception's first hit August 2009 ahead of a July 2010 release and Interstellar's teaser even ended with the text "A year from now". Despite that claim (it was a month out), however, only one film has actually had a trailer released a whole twelve months in advance - The Dark Knight Rises.

That's right - the closing of Nolan's epic Batman trilogy was surrounded by such a level of hype that a teaser was released almost a year-to-the-day ahead of time (give or take a leak). Like Star Wars, it was a really stripped back tease - the first half leans on what's come before and the second is mainly Gordon's line about the Batman having to "come back". Now that's how you set up a movie twelve months in advance.
