6 Unexpected Surprises From Oscars 2014 Nominations

5. American Hustle Gets A Nomination In All Four Acting Categories

The acting nominations American Hustle received include Christian Bale for Best Actor, Amy Adams for Best Actress, Bradley Cooper for Best Supporting Actor, and Jennifer Lawrence for Best Supporting Actress. Is it safe to say the Academy liked the acting in this movie? Of course, American Hustle wound up getting a bunch of nominations in general with ten overall. After receiving three Golden Globes this past weekend, it became abundantly clear that the film was the frontrunner in this year's awards race. Many people covering the awards had a feeling that the film could receive a nomination in each acting category but to actually see it happen is still surprising. The Academy seems to go crazy for actors in David O. Russell movies. The Fighter won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress. And do you know what was the last film to get a nomination in every acting category? It was Russell's previous film, Silver Linings Playbook, from last year. To have this feat happen two years in a row for the same director is mind-boggling, especially since it was thirty years since it had happened previously. Jennifer Lawrence wound up winning Best Actress for Silver Linings, could she wind up winning an Oscar for a second year in a row? At this point, it's certainly plausible.
