6 Ways Disney Can Still Save Pirates Of The Caribbean 6

2. Less CGI

CGI has reached almost photorealistic levels these days. And Pirates Of The Caribbean has always had a huge budget; the CGI has never been bad in the way of Jaws 3D. There’s just been an overreliance on it.

The fact CGI is so close to perfect these days is both a double-edged sword. It means that we can totally lose ourselves in the moment when we see the Kraken, but it also means that mindblowing monsters are no longer a big sell.

If Pirates 6 has a similarly lacklustre story to 3, 4 or 5, an amazingly rendered monster isn’t going to save it.

CGI is Hollywood bread and butter these days, especially for a blockbuster. Of course, Pirates 6 is going to feature it in some capacity. But if they want to earn it, there has to be some kind of payoff. The skeleton army in Curse Of The Black Pearl isn’t the most ambitious they’ve been with CGI, but it’s probably the most successful.

Davy Jones looked cool, but from then on it feels like they’ve been pushing the envelope for no real reason. Pirates 6 would do well do reel it back in.
