6 Ways Disney Can Still Save Pirates Of The Caribbean 6
1. Build A New Character
Let’s not forget, these are movies based on a theme park ride. Not the other way around. Pirates without Jack Sparrow is absolutely not the same as James Bond without Bond. In fact, a lot of executives pushed back against Depp’s flamboyantly idiosyncratic portrayal of the rum guzzling pirate. In Hollywood terms, he’s a fairly new character. In Pirates 6, they need to go back to the drawing board.
There are so many actors out there who could carry a franchise that for whatever reason, don’t have one. Ryan Gosling? Tom Hardy? With Hunger Games over and X-Men stuttering, they could even turn to a female lead and hire the likes of Jennifer Lawrence.
Whoever they go with has a monumental task on their shoulders. Ordinarily Pirates 6 would’ve only generated buzz from franchise fans. With the interest surrounding it now Depp’s out though, there’s a lot more pressure.
This new franchise lead needs to be their own person. A knock off Jack Sparrow just isn’t going to cut it. But the world is so open and malleable. Get the next lead right and they could be setting themselves up for another trilogy and beyond.
