6 Ways To Save The James Bond Franchise After Spectre Disappointed

2. Bring In A New Director

Sam Mendes did an incredible job with Skyfall, helming what was both the highest grossing Bond movie to date and arguably the first in the franchise which deserved to be Oscar nominated. However, other than that brilliant opening tracking sequence, it felt like Mendes had been replaced with an inferior version of himself when it came to Spectre. As a result, it's without a doubt for the best that he doesn't return for the next one. Now, I'm not saying that he was a one hit wonder with Skyfall or that he wouldn't do great things with a better script, but his decision to pay homage to the Roger Moore era was a major misfire which led to a lot of really awful moments. What's next? A return to the sci-fi silliness of Pierce Brosnan's tenure as 007?! Regardless, Mendes will hopefully stick to his word by not coming back for whatever ends up following Spectre. When it comes to who should take over, bringing in a younger director who still has a decent amount of experience would likely be for the best. Alternatively, MGM could take a risk by going with a little known filmmaker without much blockbuster experience, something which has worked well for Marvel Studios. Ultimately, they just need someone who is capable of moving the franchise away from becoming a parody of itself.
