67 WTF Moments From The Terminator Franchise

24. Dogs Can Detect Terminators - The Terminator

One of the series' most interesting plot points that people rarely talk about is the rather peculiar fact that dogs have a way of detecting Terminators. It's never explained in the movies why this is, but in a resistance flash-forward in the first movie, a pair of German shepherds stark barking when an infiltrator unit shows up at their base. Though it isn't ever lingered on, dogs are shown to be frequently restless at the presence of a Terminator in the first two movies especially, a clever and subtle plot device which sadly hasn't really been used at all in the later movies.

23. John Finds A Father In The Terminator - Terminator 2: Judgment Day

A fantastic but undeniably odd moment in T2 occurs when Sarah sees John playing with the T-800, and via voice-over she reflects on what she's watching: "Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. The Terminator would never stop. It would never leave him, and it would never hurt him, never shout at him, or get drunk and hit him, or say it was too busy to spend time with him. It would always be there. And it would die to protect him. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice." Overall it helps heighten the emotional impact of the movie, even if the tale of a boy and his surrogate robot daddy is pretty damn weird.
