The 7.5 Most Shocking Movie Deaths Of 2013

1. Dr. Andrew Fassbach, World War Z

As you might expect, there are plenty of bleak moments in a movie concerned with a zombie infestation and the loss of 80% of human life on Earth. But the most shocking death of World War Z doesn't involve a zombie €“ it's through an act of sheer arrogance and ignorance. After being introduced to Brad Pitt's Dr. Lane, we find that Dr. Fassbach is a brilliant young scientific mind at the United Nations with a belief that the cause of the zombie outbreak is viral: meaning if a vaccine can be created, there may be hope for the human race after all. Lane reluctantly agrees to escort Fassbach along with a team of Navy SEALs into China, where the first case was recorded €“ his experience in trouble zones too invaluable not to be used by the UN. On arrival at Camp Humphreys in South Korea, the group are preparing to disembark and make a run for the buildings. Lane notices Fassbach holding his gun with his finger already on the trigger, and warns him not to hold it like that. Almost immediately, the group is attacked by zombies as they prepare to exit via the ramp, and Fassbach turns to run back up and into the plane - but he slips, and falling onto the floor, shoots himself dead. It's a completely unnecessary death: if the Harvard graduate had just listened to the worldly experience of Lane and taken his finger off the trigger, he may have survived a little longer. You can only feel frustration and anger at Fassbach, not sympathy, as it seemed that he was destined to find the cure for the zombie virus. We are left to ponder the fate of the human race, as Fassbach seemed to be the only one who really understood the nature of the outbreak.
