7 Actors Whose Film Careers Went Downhill After Winning An Oscar
4. F. Murray Abraham
Oscar Win: Best Actor, Amadeus, 1985 To be fair, F. Murray Abraham's primary focus over the past thirty years has been his career on stage. That said, many other actors have been able to enjoy great careers in theater without appearing in movies like National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon. To call F. Murray Abraham's film career disappointing would be an understatement. He's had one dominating performance in Amadeus and the rest of his career is filled with small supporting roles, often in forgettable movies. F. Murray Abraham's career struggles since winning an Oscar have been well-documented. There's even a section about it in his Wikipedia page. Fortunately, Abraham seems to take it all in stride as he once told Leonard Maltin, "The Oscar is the single most important event of my career. I have dined with kings, shared equal billing with my idols, lectured at Harvard and Columbia. If this is a jinx, I'll take two." While the actor is well past the age of 70 now, he has delivered some fairly memorable performances these past couple of years. He's appeared in television shows such as The Good Wife and Homeland and you can also catch him in recent movies like Inside Llewyn Davis and The Grand Budapest Hotel. This begs the question: why has he waited until now to appear in interesting movies?
