Hey, it's the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man running riot through New York City! But wait, who are those giant men? Why are the trees in Central Park so small? Just when you start to realise that he isn't a gigantic marshmallow, here's another revelation: it's a guy in a costume. That guy is Bill Bryson, who created and eventually donned the latex suit. This particular shot was achieved by creating a miniature Central Park. In other shots, such as the shots of him walking down the street was accomplished by film suit against a blue screen and inserting him into footage of real street.

Looking back, it's actually pretty amazing that the effect of him being a giant being was so believable. That's the magic of cinema, isn't it? Either way, I don't think that Dan Aykroyd would be so afraid if he saw him at this size.
