Green Lantern showed us how important a good, engaging plot is. The problem with Deadpool is that the comics simply follow him around. There are some great storylines, but many of Deadpools adventures occur with or due to other Marvel characters. These characters will in all likelihood be unusable due to the rights conflicts, so the available plots are shrinking. The risk with this is that the film may dissolve into little more than an action packed comedy film, devoid of plot and substance. Following Deadpool as he slays an almost never ending cascade of enemies would entertain younger audiences, but it would leave many fans leaving cinemas somewhat disappointed. Moreover, with the launch of an X-Force film occurring near to Deadpools release date, it could be possible that Fox may use this as a launching pad to widen their franchise. This could give us an interesting plot, but would it mean the film loses some of the gravitas that makes Deadpool so entertaining. A Deadpool film has to contain blood, guts, swearing, fighting and innuendos. But, it also requires the correct scenario to allow these parts to shine. If the film lacks this, it could give us just another poor version of Deadpool.
