7 Bizarre Cinematic Universes That Are Actually Happening
6. "Classic Monsters" Cinematic Universe
"Classic Monsters." What the hell are "Classic Monsters," you're wondering? You know: Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Wolfman, Dracula, The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon... all your favourites, in one nifty franchise. This isn't a joke, people: Universal really have unveiled plans to structure a cinematic universe around the idea of the classic monsters - many of which are from the '30s and '40s - coming together. Which means that there might be an Invisible Man movie, but - hey - he might turn up in the The Wolfman flick for half an hour or something - you know, because. Thus far it appears as though the Wolfman and Mummy movies are currently in the pre-production stages (with Dracula possibly also, depending on if Universal want Dracula Untold to count) and are to be rendered in rendered in an action style instead of a horror style, as a way to "reimagine and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience." Which basically sounds like an convoluted excuse to ramp up the explosions. Plot details are thin, though the idea for The Mummy reboot actually sounds kind of cool, given that it's purported to involve a story concerning a "Navy SEAL and his team hunting terrorists in the Iraqi desert, and inadvertently setting events in motion that would tie him to the mummy of the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal." Fingers crossed on that one, then.
