7 Bizarre Cinematic Universes That Are Actually Happening
5. Ghostbusters Cinematic Universe
You can kind of understand how Ghostbusters might work as a cinematic universe type thing, given that Dan Aykroyd originally envisioned the first movie as one in which ghostbusting was an accepted thing all over the world, with multiple branches and such. In that sense, it seems like the ideal format to reboot the series within. Then again, these are comedy movies, and does anyone care enough about world-building? The plan, apparently, is to set up at least two branches. The first branch will be made up of female characters in a movie directed by Bridesmaids' Paul Fieg, and will feature Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, amongst others. There's also plans for a male-orientated movie starring Channing Tatum, with the proposed intention of bringing all these characters together in another, separate flick. Which could be funny, but is it a case of much too much? At least director Paul Fieg is concentrating on his own movie and is intent not to worry about the whole cinematic universe thing. In his own words:
"Im just concentrated on mine. Thats kind of the big plan that Ivan and Sony have. Well see if mine ends up tying into theirs. Im not involved with that right now at all. My only goal is to get my ladies doing their thing."
