7 Cancelled Movie Sequels Saved By Comics

2. William Gibson's Alien 3

Robocop Frank Miller
Dark Horse Comics

Aliens was the sequel no one expected. It was bigger, better, and elevated Ripley to being truly one of the most badass women in movie history.

Alien 3 came out six years later and it sucked. Some like to defend David Fincher's ill-fated sequel, but the studio mishandled it, with the finished product only a shell of what the original film could have been.

All of that changed in 2019 when the original draft of famed cyberpunk William Gibson was unleashed unto the world. Gibson's script was wholly original without neglecting the claustrophobia and terror of the first, or the action and spectacle of the second.

Without spoiling anything, this comic is a prime example of the different paths a franchise could take - and one, in Alien's case, that fans may have preferred.
