7 Clever Ways Movies Hid Their Stunt Doubles
3. Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Created Digital Stunt Doubles Of Its Actors
A modern solution to a decades-old problem, one advanced, expensive way that some movies hide their stunt doubles is by using a digital version of the actor.
Professional stunt performers are ready and equipped to deal with a vast amount of falls, fights, chases and jumps, but there are some things that are just too complicated or too dangerous for a human being to do - even a highly-trained one. And so, in these cases, the VFX department can come to the rescue by creating a fake stunt double that resembles the actor.
And because of how good CGI and effects technology is these days, it's often hard to distinguish the digital construct from the real actor. A few great examples can be found in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which featured computer-generated versions of Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Kevin Hart, that blend seamlessly into the finished product.
Mind you, the technology isn't so good that it can be used to replace stunt doubles in less-crowded scenes (it would be too easy to spot a digital character in a one-on-one brawl, for example) but for small touch-ups - and scenes where the performers are only visible for a short amount of time - this is a good method to use.
