Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find them is all the rage right now with Newt Scamander becoming everybody's favorite new wizard. But is it possible that Newt had already impacted the Harry Potter series before Fantastic Beasts came about?

This theory states that Hagrid was given Aragog, the Acromantula from a middle aged Scamander back in the 40's. Aragog mentions in The Chamber of Secrets that he "came to Hagrid from a distant land, in the pockets of a traveler" and it's hard not to put the pieces together. What other wizard would be carrying around Fantastic Beasts in his pocket?!

We already know that Newt went to school at Hogwarts as a child and returned there as a teacher in the future. So, perhaps he recognised in Hagrid a kindred spirit and saw how fascinated he also was with magical creatures so decided to give him Aragog. it wouldn't be the first time his poor judgement led to a Hogwarts expulsion...
