7 Crazy Star Wars Fan Theories People Actually Believed

1. R2-D2 Is Luke€™'s Father

It's worth kicking off this entry by clarifying that this hasn't been taken seriously in decades. Even though some found it hard to accept Darth Vader really was Luke's father following his big reveal at the end of The Empire Strikes Back (hence definitive confirmation in Return Of The Jedi), odds are after that iconic line nobody gave this theory a second glance. Doesn't mean it isn't pretty cool though.

In the early drafts for Star Wars the father of the character who would become Luke Skywalker was present, but after numerous rewrites he disappeared, killed long before the film's events. There's references from Uncle Owen and Obi-Wan in the finished movie, but for the most part he's just an absent player with little plot presence. So naturally there were lots of questions as to whether the presented story (Vader killed Anakin) was the whole truth.

One of the most ridiculous is that R2-D2 is actually a cyborg containing the remains of Papa Skywalker. Vader thought he'd finished off Anakin, but in fact there was still some brain function and Skywalker was put in a droid casing to help the Rebel Alliance and look after his son. It helps explain how the previously Force-absent Luke was suddenly able to hear dead people and the like; his father was there to help him.

It makes the end of A New Hope, where Luke has not only switched off his targeting computer, but was also flying without the help of his damaged droid/father/Force-help, that little more victorious.

Which Star Wars theories do you know? Let us know the most ridiculous you can think of down in the comments below.
