3. Latecomers
Tardiness seems to be a common curse in our society, and the inability to be punctual is so standard these days that it's widely acceptable to rock up late to an event. As such, society has evolved in certain ways to deal with this tardiness. For instance, if we tell people the party starts at 9, we aren't often ready ourselves until about 9:15/9:30, and we're not really expecting people to come until 9:45/10:00 or sometimes later. Cinemas also have kindly found a way to deal with this tardiness, by introducing the whole advertisement/movie trailer institution. This allows a person the ability to come 15-20 minutes late and not miss a minute of actual plot. I really like the theatrical trailer system, as it rewards punctual people with snippets of potential movies they may want to see in the future, while also giving a chance for latecomers to settle into the cinema before the main movie starts. However, despite this system, every so often there will be the people who still cannot get to the movie theatre on time. They come in after the movie has already started, with the lights off and often struggle to find their seats. Honestly, if you are already over 20 minutes late, why did you follow through with this plan to see a movie? Unless this is an obscure movie with one session a day, you will have had or could have other chances to see this movie in the future. Clearly, seeing this movie isn't a priority for you as you've missed the opening scene were they set up the protagonist, leaving you to play catch up. The bigger issue is that you don't just miss out on scenes. When you do eventually arrive to the movie and fumble around for your seat, you piss off the people whose movie you are spoiling because you are unable to understand a concept of time and weren't able to organise yourself well enough to ensure that you arrived within the allotted 20 minute time between the screening time listed by the theatre and when the actual movie starts.
