7 Deeply Unsettling Unanswered Questions In Kids' Movies

1. Beauty And The Beast - Why Don't All The Servants Have Faces?

Beauty And The Beast raises several questions to the adult viewer; why would Belle open the door to a man she openly despises? Why is seemingly no one aware that there is an enormous castle mere miles away in the woods until it is relevant? Just how serious a disorder is Stockholm Syndrome? But there is one which is unaccountably more disturbing than the rest, regarding the servants of the enchanted castle, all of whom have been transformed into the furniture fittings of the residence of the beast. Why do the majority of the servants not have faces? Lumiere and Cogsworth in particular have very defined features, right down to cheekbones, tongues and in some cases, eyelashes (why does a teapot need eyelashes?). But then you have the unfortunate background characters, those who have been turned into plates, beer mugs, utensils and footstools. These poor souls don't have mouths to express their anguish at being transformed thanks to the actions of their master. Most don't even have eyes; imagine being forced into blindness for years thanks to your selfish master, only to one day be awakened with the discovery that you've spent around a decade as cheese grater. And then you have those seen in the background of the Be Our Guest number, who are living champagne bottles. When they all pop their corks, does that have repercussions on their human form? Have they essentially just erupted their innards through their heads in the name of a catchy song? Furthermore, there must be thousands of these desperately unlucky people, given how many of them are seen in every kitchen scene. When they are all restored, do they return to full human size whilst neatly packed into the cutlery drawer? Surely the sudden recovery and restoration causes a great deal of unimaginable suffering for those who have already gone through so much. When you think about it, Beauty And The Beast is a truly harrowing tale of the dangers of selfishness, pride and storage space. Are there any questions you've discovered in kid's movies?
