2. Maleficent - Sleeping Beauty
When the words 'evil queen' and 'villainess' come up, there's no one who springs to mind more quickly and prominently than Maleficent, the couture queen who dominates 'Sleeping Beauty' and secured herself a place in the cultural consciousness of both Disney and the 1950s. Maleficent acts vengefully against the rulers of a kingdom when she is pointedly uninvited to a royal christening and curses the baby princess to die when she becomes an adult. Although the curse is lessened, the battle between Maleficent and the trio of benevolent witches who save her dominates the film as they fight for the soul of Princess Aurora. Maleficent may be getting her own live action Disney film with none other than Angelina Jolie in the title role, but I'd have loved to have seen a prequel previously that charts Maleficent's journey to evil, or even puts her on a path of redemption after the events of 'Sleeping Beauty'.
