7 Harry Potter Characters Who Were ALMOST Sorted Into A Different House
4. Gilderoy Lockhart
Gilderoy Lockhart is one of the more overlooked villains in the Harry Potter franchise. He may have seemed handsome and jovial, but on the inside, he was a selfish man who was desperate for glory.
When deciding where to place Lockhart, the Sorting Hat was torn between Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Given Lockhart’s lack of magical talent, the Hat’s final decision to place him in Ravenclaw was rather foolish. Whilst his idea to take the credit for the actions of great individuals by interviewing them and wiping their memories was pretty smart, he was also incredibly selfish. He even tried to wipe Harry and Ron’s memories whilst they were down in the Chamber of Secrets.
What’s more, Lockhart didn’t appear to have any remorse for his actions at all. From his perspective, fame was so important that it didn’t matter how he obtained it. Indeed, the Hat should really have taken a bit more time to make its decision.
