7 Horror Movie Prequels That Need To Happen
4. The Guest
Though The Guest isn’t strictly speaking a horror movie, it wears its horror inspirations firmly on its sleeve, with an '80s John Carpenter vibe pulsating throughout, and a final act that owes much to the slasher sub-genre.
It is also a movie with an aura of mystery bubbling beneath the surface, and in many ways throws up more questions than it answers. A well-crafted prequel could explore some of those answers, whilst creating more questions along the way so not to ruin the tantalising cryptic tone of the original.
For example, The Guest never properly explains how Dan Steven's 'soldier' David came to be? Though we do know he was the experiment of a shady secret military organisation, we don’t really know who he is, what the experiment was for and what the mysterious incident that led to his escape was. It would be great to delve into at least some of these mysteries.
The Guest also marked one of Dan Stevens’ best performances to date, as he managed to pull off being icy and incredibly charismatic simultaneously. It would be great to see him reprise the role, with an even more nuanced take on the character, as his reluctance at the whole experiment, hinted at in The Guest, comes to the forefront in the prequel.
