We could all stay up all night arguing whether Dawn O’Keefe is a heroin or a villain, but let's go with the latter.

Dawn’s opening moments during the gem of a horror film Teeth portrays her as an innocent and well intentioned teenager, who’s even a spokesperson for a Christian abstinence group and tries to see only the best qualities in the people that surround her. Soon enough, Dawn discovers that the old saying is true: the path to hell really is paved with good intentions.

For Dawn, her virginity is a promise to keep and a treasure to protect, but after she meets curly-haired Tobey in the group, things take a turn for the worse. When Dawn and Tobey swim together in a popular local spot, they give into their attraction and start kissing. Tobey wants to take things further, but she stops him. Dawn is pushed by the boy and is left dazed on a cave floor, that’s when Tobey attempts to rape her.

It’s in that moment that Dawn realizes that there’s something special about her, a weapon that will come real handy in a world filled with violence towards women. Teeth. In entirely the wrong place. Blood and gore ensues. From this point forward, Dawn’s journey is a search for justice in an environment that constantly objectifies her and that cares so little for her well being.
