7 Insanely Dedicated Acting Performances That Were Totally Ignored

4. Nicolas Cage - Vampire's Kiss

Nicolas Cage is insane. I know it, you know it and he definitely knows it. While people often cite such atrocities as Ghost Rider or The Wicker Man as the pinnacle of his madness, there is one performances that easily tops them all and that is Cage's role in Vampire's Kiss. Any credible vampire movie needs to include a vampire bat at some point... obviously, so for one scene, Cage fought to use a real bat to bite him, but was eventually convinced that this could make him seriously ill. In another scene where Cage was supposed to eat raw eggs, he instead chose to a eat a live cockroach. Wait. Make that two. Two takes, so two cockroaches. Why did Cage decide to do this? Because he's so dedicated, that's why! Suffice to say, Vampire's Kiss performed extremely poorly at the box office and so Cage's enthusiasm for the role was only fully appreciated once the film developed a cult following years later. I just felt bad for those cockroaches. Now they were the real unsung heroes of that movie.
