7 Man Of Steel Criticisms Which Were Completely Unfair
3. Too Much Action
One of the most unfair criticisms thrown at the movie. Yes, there is an abundance of action and, yes, perhaps some of it was a case of overegging the pudding but, for the most part, the spectacle is absolutely mind blowing. The CGI is fantastic, aside from a few dodgy moments, the score is spine tingling and the street battles with Zod's henchmen were epic. When Superman Returns' was released in 2006 it arrived with a bit of a thud. There was too much focus on Lois and Clark and not enough action. Now Snyder gives us Man Of Steel and there is not enough Lois and Clark and too much action? Perhaps it is an indicator of how difficult it is to adapt Superman for the big screen but, for me, this was exactly what I wanted. It is clear that Man Of Steel has tried to introduce Superman to the 21st century, much like Nolan's Batman movies, and in this respect it succeeds. In order to analyse whether Superman would be a friend or foe it was necessary to show a lot of the destruction that his arrival heralds. Taking into account the idea of Clark being unsure whether to reveal his true identity it needed something like an invasion of earth to give him the kickstart. Ok, so Metropolis seems to be completely fine mere days after the destruction but in a series which asks the viewer to overlook Clark and Superman's physical similarities, this seems to be an unfair nitpick rather than a genuine criticism.
