7 Man Of Steel Criticisms Which Were Completely Unfair

1. It's Not Superman: The Movie (1979)

Amazingly, this criticism was not only thrown out by the original's fans; that would be understandable if entirely unfair. But no, it seems many professional film critics shared this view and proceeded to unfairly compare much of Man Of Steel with Richard Donner's much loved adaptation. Many reviews held up the original Superman movie as the ultimate take on the character and seemed to neglect the fact that Man Of Steel is probably the closest you will come to a Superman adaptation in terms of the comic. Instead many critics chose to bemoan the lack of warmth in the character, lack of small time criminals getting their comeuppance, lack of Lois and Clark... basically everything the first movie did, and did extremely well. From the outset it was clear that this was not going to be a simple rehash and that is why I was so excited for it. With Chris Nolan on board anyone expecting light hearted laughs were always going to be disappointed and the decision to stray as far away as possible from any previous incarnation meant Snyder could tell the story he wanted without being shackled by what came before. As previously mentioned, with Superman Returns, Bryan Singer experienced firsthand what can happen if you slavishly adhere to a movie which was made more than 30 years ago. In a world full of reboots and remakes, it was refreshing to see a superhero movie daring to do something different with its character. By abandoning ridiculous elements, such as Lois being oblivious to Clark's true identity, Snyder has reintroduced the character for this generation and I, for one, cannot wait for the sequel. Over to you Affleck. Disagree? Surely not, but if you do, or simply have some insight of your own please comment below.
