7 Mistakes You Won't Believe Every Hollywood Action Movie Continues To Make
7. How High-Speed Chases Are Seemingly Possible In Known Congested Cities
A mistake many will fail to recognise in a lot of movies, but when watching a number of mainstream non-action films set in European countries, you'll notice how much traffic there is in cities such as London, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Milan, Manchester, and Brussels etc. However, in action films set in that specific area, you'll see how high-speed car-chases can occur without little, or any, traffic getting in the way. Often the cars are even strategically-placed so vehicles can weave in-and-out for effect. In the real world, this would never happen. Let alone how bad New York is, in the aforementioned cities you'd be at a standstill and forced to get away on foot. While again, people may say 'it's just a movie', are the salient facts about the city said film is based in not relevant? If you're going for realism, you need to have every detail correct or else you're better off making a fake city to use instead. These filmmakers only appear bothered to include the biggest details of a city such as the more well-known landmarks rather than something that will be a potential plot hole to an action scene. London, Paris, Milan, and New York's congestion problems aren't exactly unknown to the general public, so why is this flaw continually not addressed in action films? I guess if it was, Speed would've been over in minutes they'd probably never reach the 50 mph in LA traffic, and if they did, one of the myriad traffic jams would put paid to Sandra Bullock before the police ever noticed what was going on.
