7 More MCU Deleted Scenes That Should've Stayed In Their Movies
1. Drax Explains His Tattoos (Guardians Of The Galaxy)
The Scene
Groot, Rocket and Drax are getting drunk in a bar (unsurprisingly), while waiting to meet with the Collector to discuss the sale of the Power Stone.
Since drunkenness and being overly-emotional typically go hand-in-hand, Drax goes all gloomy and starts explaining what the many, many tattoos littered across his body represent.
Why It Should've Stayed
Even though they're front-and-centre whenever Drax is onscreen, the MCU has never taken the time to explain exactly what his tattoos mean. Since he's covered his entire body with them, they're clearly of great significance to him, so it's a little strange that we have no idea why they're so important to the character. It would almost be like Cap's shield or Thor's hammer not being explained.
But as it turns out, the MCU has explained what Drax's tattoos mean - but the footage was cut from the film. The first Guardians movie almost included an extended version of the bar scene, which shows the crew waiting to be invited into the Collector's museum. In the final cut, Groot, Rocket and Drax get drunk, but the major emotional beats are reserved for Rocket, with Drax relegated to hurling insults.
Consequently, adding this small moment back into the mix would've made for a much richer scene. Drax describes his tattoos as the history of his life, and even gives details on specific ones. With the character mostly used as comedic relief these days, any footage that gives him a few extra shades of personality shouldn't be left on the cutting room floor, and it's a real shame that Drax... was axed.
