7 Most Exciting New Additions To Captain America: Civil War
2. Spider-Man (Tom Holland)
Andrew Garfield did some good work as Spider-Man in the two films he got to don the suit, and may consider himself unfortunate to have been ousted from the role. However, with The Amazing Spider-Man films not performing to expectations, and a co-share deal negotiated between Marvel and Sony, they're taking Spidey in a different, younger direction, making him simply too old for the role (not to mention the continuity). After rampant speculation about who was in contention, it was 19-year-old Tom Holland who eventually secured the part after a fairly lengthy audition process. He's best known so far for his role in The Impossible, and this is a big step-up for him, but he must have really wowed the producers with his audition and that's cause enough to be excited. But really, the exciting part here is the fact that this is Spider-Man, the most popular Marvel superhero of all time. And not only is it Spider-Man, but it's him finally joining the MCU! This is something fans have been wishing for but thinking they probably wouldn't receive, with poor sequels, failed reboot attempts, and talk of an entire Spidey universe. Now he's back home (like a child of divorce, splitting time between his parents Marvel and Sony), and he'll be slinging into Civil War before getting his own film in 2017.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
